Demerara rum

Demerara rum is a kind of rum made in Guyana, on the northern shore of South America. Demerara rum is most similar to Jamaican rum but has a smoky, almost burnt savor that can add complexity to cocktails.

Demerara Distillers is best known for its house brand, El Dorado Demerara Rum. In the earlier 1990s, the company launched El Dorado 15-Year, the first long-aged premium rum.

All Demerara rum is distilled in Guyana, regardless of where it may be aged and bottled. The rum is derived from sugarcane grown along the banks and is distilled by Demerara Distillers Limited or the DDL.
