Elderflower Cordial

Elderflower cordial is a soft beverage made from refined sugar and water solution and uses the flowers of the European elder. Lady Mary Manners invented the now-bestselling recipe for elderflower cordial way back in the 1950s.

There's some confusion as to whether a cordial includes alcohol or not. An elderflower cordial is a soft drink, made in Victorian timesand used to flavor drinks, where alcohol could be added, or not, which gave the drink a lot more versatility.

It is designed to offer a sweet sensation at first, followed by citrusy freshness, and to finish with a slight heat of the chili. The recipe was created in 2004/5 by Salvatore Calabrese for his bar Fifty, London, England, which after the usual delays, opened in 2005.
