Lemon is a rich source of vitamin C, supplying 64% of the Daily Value in a 100 g reference amount. Lemons contain multiple phytochemicals, including polyphenols, terpenes, and tannins.

The fruit, juice, and peel are in use to make medicine, to treat scurvy, a condition caused by not having enough vitamin C. Lemon is in use for the common cold and flu, ringing in the ears, Meniere's disease, and kidney stones.
